Eat Your Way to Pearly Whites

While the quickest way to return your teeth to their pearly white glory is to invest in teeth whitening products, it is important to follow up those treatments with proper behavior afterwards. One of the ways to help in keeping your teeth healthy is to add more greens in your diet, as well as other vegetables and fruit.

Cutting down on staining drinks such as coffee and tea may also help in reducing the yellowing of teeth. Apples, celery and carrots act as natural stain removers, while greens such as spinach, broccoli, and lettuce create a film over the teeth that serve as a stain barrier. By increasing these veggies and fruits in your daily diet, you can prolong the effect of teeth whitening treatments.

There are a few other things you can do to help keep your teeth bright when you are eating. First, swish your mouth and sip some water after eating a couple bits of food that are known to stain teeth. Some of these include red wine, tea, blueberries, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, tomato sauce, grape juice and cranberry juice.

Second, skip bubbly beverages, even if they are diet drinks. The acid contained in these drinks can wear down tooth enamel, thus providing areas for stains to set and develop.

Finally, try to avoid sugar heavy treats, and rather go for natural sweet treats, such as dehydrated fruit, or fresh fruit.
