Teeth Whitening: Dental vs. Home Treatments

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

The question as to whether dental teeth whitening is better than home products needs to be answered in a different way than a simple yes or no. While both options are good, you need to make your decision based on your own personal preference while taking into account several factors.

The first factor to consider is the convenience factor. Going to the dentist requires having time. Not only to get to the dental office, but you will need at least an hour for treatment, not to mention the time in the waiting room and the pre-whitening cleaning. Whereas a home treatment product can be used at your own convenience, at a time which is acceptable to you.

The second factor to consider is the monetary factor. This tends to be the major factor when considering which path to take. A single whitening process visit can start at $400 and can increase depending on the dentist and area of the office (in other words, the cost is subject to change). Home use products are far cheaper and can be found either in drugstores or on-line.

The third factor is the time factor. Not only can you have a busy day without the ability to schedule in a visit during operating hours to the dentist, but some whitening products need to treat for various times. Some simply need minutes, while others are designed to treat for hours.

Either way you decide to go, be sure to research an make the decision for yourself.

The Best of Teeth Whitening

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Having a bright smile and white teeth has long been symbols of intelligence, self-esteem and good health. Many people judge others by their teeth, and not just in the acting and modeling industry. However, regular treatment at the dentist can become costly, not just financially, but also in time consumption.

One of the other problems is that the peroxide used by dentists can be painful to people with sensitive teeth. There are a few products on the market that are made with these people in mind. Therefore, it is important to research products before deciding which one to use. Trial and error may be productive in determining the suitability of products, but this method can become costly as well.

Having a white, bright smile has been shown to be helpful in establishing and maintaining a high self-esteem and confidence level. When you don

What can I eat after Teeth Whitening?

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

For around forty eight hours after any teeth whitening gel has been placed on the surface of the teeth the teeth are very porous and for this reason you need to be sensible about what is placed in the mouth otherwise the teeth could re-stain very easily and after investing time and money in whitening this would be a shame.

It would be impossible to list every single item which could re-stain your teeth as the list would be huge but think of neutral items as these are fine to consume. If you are a wine drinker then consider white wine instead of red. If you drink coffee or tea then drink water or milk as these are neutral and minimize the chance of re-staining.

Other things like red cabbage, curries, pasta sauces and fruit juices would be best avoided for 48 hours after but things like chicken, fish, white cheese, rice and bananas would be fine to consume.

After this time has lapsed then it is perfectly fine to carry on consuming whatever you fancy and then you will need a whitening kit or system that refreshes the teeth when staining will reappear which can be as little as a few months for many of us. This can be removed by a home kit like trays and strips which whiten the teeth using low strength gel and will refresh the teeth back to their original whiteness.

It Teeth Bleaching Safe?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The latest fad among the fashion-minded is tooth whitening, also often referred to as teeth bleaching. After all, nothing says young, happy, and glad to be your friend than a brilliant smile. A great look can also help you move up the corporate ladder.

For those who depend on having a great appearance, like movie stars or super models, it’s worth it to spend a good chunk of change to whiten the teeth. But even an ordinary person may find that discolored teeth can ruin that valuable first impression and alienate potential employers.

Unfortunately, as we grow older, the amount of minerals in our teeth begins to change and we lose that beautiful white appearance. The everyday items that come into contact with your teeth can also cause discoloration. Tobacco, for example, is a major cause of color change, as is pigmentation from bacteria.

Happily, this process can be reversed with tooth whitening, and you’ll soon be lighting up the room with your stunning smile. For some, undergoing a tooth whitening procedure is a matter of good health. Some forms of discoloration can lead to serious dental problems and so your dentist may decide to whiten the teeth as a preemptive strike.

Whether you have it done for cosmetic reasons or health reasons, tooth whitening is accomplished the same way, through the use of oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide. Oxidizing agents work like the bleach you use on your clothes, reacting with the tooth enamel in order to remove the stains. The more often the bleaching is done, the further into the dentine layer the oxidizing agent will be able to travel.

Whiten Your Teeth at Home

Smiling typically makes you simply feel good, but it can also make you feel self-conscious if your teeth are less than white. Fortunately, the market is inundated with many new treatments and products which can keep you from wanting to hide your grin.

With age, the enamel on our teeth becomes thinner and more transparent allowing the inner layer, known as dentin, to show through. The frequent consumption of coffee, tee, cola and red wine are also culprits in discoloring our pearly whites into a dingy yellow.

For most whiteners, the key ingredient is peroxide. This chemical is safe for the mouth while it bleaches the enamel to lift away stains. The higher the concentration of peroxide combined with the length of time you leave it on your teeth, the whiter they will get. However, the down side is that peroxide can clean out and open small passages in the teeth leading to increased tooth sensitivity.

Because of the risks, anyone who is predisposed to tooth sensitivity should avoid teeth whitening products. In addition, anyone with crowns or fillings on their front teeth should avoid whiteners on the chance of having miscolored teeth. Finally, if your teeth look grayish, the discoloration likely lies inside the teeth, and bleaching won

After a teeth bleaching treatment, make your mouth really shine by enhancing your make-up to show off your enhanced smile.

First, wipe out flakes. Smooth lips by gently rubbing them with a damp washcloth or soft toothbrush, then apply lip balm. If the rough patches persist, it may be a reaction to a fragrance in your lip balm or lipstick.

Second, disguise lip lines. Exfoliation and hydration are key to smoothing lip lines. Use a thick balm or hydrating treatment, followed with a shiny gloss or lipstick.

Third, fake fullness. Lip-plumping glosses are a way to help fill out thin lips. They employ the use of ingredients, such as cinnamon, to help temporarily swell the skin. Provided you aren
