How Teeth Whitening Can Help You

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Teeth whitening is becoming ever more popular and is increasingly easier to use. Once it was the pursuit of the rich and famous but with the advent of home teeth whitening kits everyone can now take advantage and achieve that winning smile.

Our teeth are precious and need to be looked after to keep them in good order. As well as regular trips to the dentists to ensure dental hygiene you should also concentrate on the appearance of your teeth. Over time teeth can and will become discolored, which leads to an unattractive smile. The main causes of this can be diet and or age.

While we cannot stop the ageing process, or prevent what we eat discoloring our teeth. We can help to eliminate the effects, once you have decided to take action. This action is much easier than you may think.

The main problems we have continually heard are that people feel that yellowing teeth aged them. Some also said that, even though they knew that their teeth were clean, they did not look clean and this stopped them from smiling regularly. Unfortunately this can have a very negative effect on our well being as smiling does lift our spirit and makes us feel better.

Teeth Whitening Options

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

A home whitening system is one way to brighten your smile. Home bleaching involves wearing a custom fit mouth tray that contains a concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel. This allows bleaching of your teeth to a brighter, whiter smile.

Home whitening can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. This is determined by each individual and the process that is used. It may also depend on the original condition of your teeth, specifically how stained they were, as well as the strength of the bleaching gel used and the condition of the teeth at the time. A big factor will depend on your eating, drinking and smoking habits. Teeth whitening solutions will not result in a permanent color change of your teeth and it won’t prevent future staining.

There may be some minor risks associated with home whitening systems. One of the most common side effects is teeth sensitivity. Teeth sensitivity is generally mild and will usually subside once the treatment is completed. If you feel severe sensitivity, you should consult your dentist. It may be recommended to wear the mouth tray for shorter period of time or consider stopping the treatment entirely.

Gum irritation or discoloration of the gum is another possibility. This is usually due to over loading the mouth tray. Stopping the process for a few days should help your gums feel and look normal again.

The Truth Behind Whiter Teeth

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Teeth naturally darken with age and due to the accumulation of surface stains their appearance can be altered. Smoking and drinking large amounts of coffee or tea can be a main factor in this alteration. Fortunately, there are many options to help keeping your teeth white.

Drinking more water is the easiest way to help save your teeth from bacteria, especially during a busy day. Drinking water after a sugary drink or food item can reduce the particles that coat your teeth and water also encourages the production of saliva, which is the body’s natural defense against bacteria and plaque.

It is important to have a diligent oral hygiene routine if you are concerned with keeping your teeth bright and healthy. Try and brush after every meal, floss, use mouthwash, and again, drink lots of water.

Although many people opt to whiten their teeth at the dentist, there are a number of natural remedies to whitening your teeth. There are whitening tools already in your home and if not you might want to add them to your grocery list, save the money and time from visiting a dentist and whiten your teeth at home, the natural way.

Keep in mind that all these teeth whitening remedies should be used in moderation, because as with any excessive treatment, they have the potential to harm your teeth with overuse.

All About Teeth Whitening Kits

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Professional dental treatment to whiten teeth can cost more than a thousand dollars. While professional teeth whitening can produce the best results, other options are also available. There are over-the-counter kits that can give great results but do not cost a fortune. You can whiten your teeth at home with these kits that come in the form of gels, strips and trays. These whitening kits result in whiter teeth, but some work better than others.

One type of kit for whitening teeth comes with a tray pre-filled with whitening solution. All you have to do is place the trays on the top and bottom teeth for a specified amount of time. The whitening solution brightens and whitens teeth.

Whitening kits can come in the form of a strip. A whitening chemical is applied on the strips and they are placed on the top and bottom teeth. Strips are more comfortable than trays but they may not cover all areas of the teeth, such as the back teeth.

Some kits come with tubes containing whitening gel. The gel is brushed on the teeth and allowed to dry. Once it’s dry, the gel is removed. The gel works best when it dries completely on the teeth. This may be difficult because of saliva in the mouth. Although it is the quickest and possibly the most effective teeth whitening kit, you have to make sure that you reach all areas of the teeth.

Should You Use Hydrogen Peroxide Teeth Whitening?

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Dental treatments for whiter teeth can cost a small fortune, but there’s at least one effective method that is very affordable. Hydrogen peroxide can be used in teeth whitening. It is a very weak acid with oxidizing properties and is used as a bleaching agent. Hydrogen peroxide is often found in toothpaste as well as disinfectants and mouth washes. You may find that hydrogen peroxide teeth whitening is the best method for you.

Many commercially available whitening products containing hydrogen peroxide are available, but you can also formulate your own home remedy. Peroxide has been routinely used for years to whiten teeth and is considered to be effective and safe by the American Dental Association. A typical teeth whitening solution may contain 3% to 10% hydrogen peroxide and exhibit varying degrees of effectiveness.

Some people may experience sensitivity to peroxide, especially in the gum area. There may be some discomfort or a temporary burning sensation that ceases once the peroxide solution is rinsed out.

Keep in mind that hydrogen peroxide will not whiten teeth that have had previous dental work, including artificial teeth and fillings. This is because the peroxide cannot penetrate the surface layers to remove the stains.

At Home Teeth Whitening: How to Get Whiter Teeth

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

So you want to whiten your teeth but you don’t have the money to pay for your laser teeth whitening procedures. What you need to do is to research some other alternatives that will help you solve your dilemma. You can visit your dentist and ask for some recommendations on how to whiten your teeth naturally without spending too much. When you search online, you will get some ideas on how to effectively make your teeth sparkle.

One of the major ingredients of any teeth whitening is Hydrogen or Carbamide Peroxide. It has oxidizing properties that tear off the stains from the enamel of your teeth and leave it pearly white. Carbamide Peroxide is only available in teeth whitening products; however, Hydrogen Peroxide is available at any pharmacy or supermarket. You can gargle one part of Hydrogen Peroxide with three parts of water. Do not use it in high concentrations because it may damage the lining of your gums and make your teeth sensitive.

The composites of the enamel are often yellowed due to frequent drinking of red wine, tea, coffee and sodas. Cigarettes and tobacco contribute a lot in staining your teeth, too. After attaining your long-awaited white teeth, you should change your drinking and smoking habits to keep it longer. Lessen the intake of the drinks mentioned above.

Hydrogen Peroxide Whitening at Home

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Want whiter teeth? You are not alone. A recent survey showed that 80% of adult Americans want whiter teeth. There are many products on the market today that will make your teeth whiter.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a very pale blue liquid, slightly more viscous than water, that appears colorless in dilute solution. It has strong oxidizing properties, and is a powerful bleaching agent. It is used as a disinfectant, antiseptic, oxidizer. The oxidizing capacity of hydrogen peroxide is so strong that it is considered a highly reactive oxygen species.

H2O2 is naturally produced in organisms as a by-product of oxidative metabolism. Nearly all living things (specifically, all obligate and facultative aerobes) possess enzymes known as peroxidases, which harmlessly and catalytically decompose low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen.

You do not want to use the peroxide that you can buy at a drugstore if it is going to be absorbed into your body. The drugstore variety is for external use only, they contain stabilizers and often contain heavy metals. 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide is the only grade of H2O2 recommended for internal use.

Dangerous Teeth Whitening Products

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Everyone wants to have whiter teeth. There aren’t many risks when it comes to whitening your teeth, however, you should know about the risks that do exist. By steering clear of these, you’ll save yourself from discomfort, dental work, and the agony of not getting the results you were initially looking for. The following tips should come in handy when it comes down to it.

Perhaps the most common danger people find themselves in is excess. When people get wrapped up in getting whiter teeth faster, they start using the product more than instructed. Another danger similar to the first, is that of mixing teeth whitening kits together. Different whiteners have unique products in them that may not be safe to mix with other ingredients.

Another danger is in using the cheaper generic product. Using the cheaper product can increase the risks, especially if you are mixing products or over using them. The results can end in weakening enamel and your teeth and irritated gums as well.

Even with these risk factors, whitening your teeth can be a great experience with a great reward. Just be patient, be smart and the results will come to you.

Easy Home Remedies for a Whiter Smile

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Everyone wants to have whiter teeth, but not everyone wants to spend extra money to achieve a beautiful smile. There are a number of home remedies available for whitening teeth that are found in your kitchen or medicine cabinet.

Oddly enough, one of the tastiest remedies for whiter teeth is to use strawberries. Strawberries contain a natural acid which whitens teeth. You can either crush the strawberries and use as you would toothpaste, or slice open the strawberry and rub along the teeth.

Using baking soda is probably the least expensive method for getting a pearly glow. You can make a baking soda paste by adding some water to it, and use on your toothbrush, or you can blend the baking soda with your toothpaste.

Swishing hydrogen peroxide can also whiten your teeth, although it does not taste very good. Take care not to swallow it.

Whatever method you choose to try, remember that some of them work by disintegrating the stains on the enamel of your teeth. Be careful not to leave any of these home remedies on for longer than necessary, which is about the time that it takes to brush your teeth, and always rinse with a lot of water.
